| It's a six book series by Patricia Veryan called League of Jewelled Men. Of those my two favorites are book 1, Time's Fool, because it begins the conspiracy, and book 6,The Mandarin of Mayfair because it reveals the hidden identity of those behind the conspiracy. |
| I love this series because Patricia Veryan is so very adept at weaving together an intricate world that all of her characters and series take place in and because her plots are amazing, complex webs and mysteries which readers wrap their minds around and try to solve before the characters. The series occurs in the unrest of England in the 1700s following the many failed Jacobite rebellions when the air is rife with intrigue, suspicion, and danger for anyone not perfectly fitting in with the status-quo. Though people labeled this series under historical romance it's actually more like historical adventure with some romance and comedy thrown in for spice. |
