Chaffey College Writing Center About the Writing Center It is our pleasure to
welcome all students and faculty to the Chaffey College Writing
Center.
Our central mission is to help students become more effective and more
confident writers. As an integral part of across-the-curriculum
writing instruction on this campus, the Writing Center exists to help
students improve their ability to communicate on paper in whatever
discipline they are following. The Writing Center's philosophy
is that writing is a process (i.e., a continuous act of thinking, drafting,
revising, rewriting, and editing). Using this concept as a foundation,
Writing Center instructors and tutors help student writers improve
their skills by teaching them strategies that take them through each
stage of the writing process. Some of the tasks a tutor might
help a student accomplish include selecting a topic, generating ideas,
developing and revising working drafts, dealing with issues of style,
and acquiring proofreading and editing skills. Writing Center instructors and tutors do not dictate content, edit, proofread, or co-author student papers, nor do they predict what sort of grade an assignment might earn. Writing Center Office Staff
