Eligibility Requirements for CalWORKs Participants

CalWORKs services are available to:

  • Parent that have a child(ren) in the home who has been deprived of parental support or care because of the absence, disability or death of either parent.
  • Both parents are in the home but the primary earner is unemployed.
  • Caretaker relatives of a foster child(ren) that are in need.

How Do I Qualify for Chaffey College CalWORKS Services?

You must be:

Receiving CalWORKs (formerly AFDC)
Be in an approved program

7 Steps To Becoming a CalWORKs Student

  • 1. SUBMIT A FREE APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION
    Submit your application online through the Chaffey College website at www.chaffey.edu. Don’t have internet access? No problem. Visit the Rancho Cucamonga campus or off-site campuses in Chino or Fontana.For more information on Admissions, please call (909) 652- 6600 or visit www.chaffey.edu/admissions.
  • 2. APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID
    Bring your most recent Cash Aid Notice of Action (N.O.A.) dated within the last 30 days to Financial Aid to apply for a fee waiver. You may be eligible for other types of aid including grants, work study, scholarships and loans. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Make sure to include the Chaffey College school code (001163). For further information, please call (909) 652-6199 or visitwww.chaffey.edu/finaid/.
  • 3. COMPLETE ASSESSMENT,ORIENTATION AND COUNSELING
    Assessment testing is by appointment only and is available at all Chaffey locations. For more information, please call (909) 652-6200. Testing in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics allows counselors to help you develop an individualized student education plan (SEP). Please call CalWORKs Program to make an appointment 0with a CalWORKs counselor at (909) 652- 6049.
  • 4. REGISTER FOR CLASSES
    As a CalWORKs student in good standing, you have priority registration. Register online using ChaffeyVIEW, using the Panther line at (909) 652-7000 or at the Rancho Cucamonga campus or at centers located in Chino or Fontana.
  • 5. ENROLLMENT FEES
    Certain fees are not be covered by the BOGW fee waiver. See your CalWORKs counselor for more information and additional resources.
  • 6. GET YOUR BOOKS APPROVED FOR PURCHASE
    The county will pay for required textbooks for registered classes that are on your educational plan in accordance with your Welfare-to-Work Plan. See your Chaffey College CalWORKs counselor for an Ancillary Book Request.
  • 7. ATTEND FIRST CLASS MEETING
    Students not attending the first class meeting may be dropped by the instructor.
