
Gerontology prepares students for careers
working with older people. This is an interdisciplinary
field, incorporating research on aging
in psychology, physiology, and sociology as well
as public policy and social ethics.

The
program is designed to prepare students for the
Dental Assisting National Board Examination for
National Certification as well as the Registered
Dental Assistant Examination for State license. This
one year program begins each semester. Students may
participate in the part-time program, which generally
takes two years.

Formulating nursing care plans which ensures that
nursing care provides for client safety, comfort, hygiene,
and for disease prevention and restoration measures.

This program, leading to an associate in science degree with a major in nursing, is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

Home Health Aides (HHA) provide patients with personal
care in the home environment. They help elderly, convalescent,
or disabled persons live in their own homes instead
of in a healthcare facility. Under the direction of nursing
or medical staff, they provide health-related services,
such checking pulse, temperature, and respiration; help
with simple prescribed exercises and help patients move
from bed, bathe, dress, groom, and assist with providing
oral medications.

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) provide
basic bedside nursing care to clients under
the direction of a physician or registered
nurse. The LVN utilizes scientific and technical
expertise and manual skills. Duties typically
include, but are not limited to, provision of
basic hygienic and nursing care; measurement of
vital signs; basic client assessment; documentation,
performance of prescribed medical treatment; administration of prescribed
medications; and, performance of non-medicated intravenous
therapy and blood withdrawal (requires separate Board certification).

The Pharmacy Technician Program offers
the opportunity to join one of the fastest
growing health careers. This program offers
either a certificate or Associate of Science
Degree in Pharmacy Technology.

The Radiologic Technology Program is a respected,
well known x-ray program that is two years
in length (including both summers). It is accredited
by the Joint Review Commission on Education in
Radiologic Technology and by the State of
California. This full-time day program provides lecture
classes with concurrent hands-on training in hospitals.
