Jonathan Ausubel studied astrophysics and philosophy while earning his B.A. in English Literature from the University of Toronto in 1987. After teaching sixth grade in New York City, he returned to Toronto, where he earned his M.A. in English Literature in 1989. From 1991 to 1992, he taught ESL at Adelphi University on Long Island. In 1996, he earned his doctorate in American Literature from the University of Delaware. Before coming to Chaffey in 1998, Professor Ausubel taught composition and literature at the University of Delaware and at Cecil Community College in Maryland, where he served as Director of the Writing Laboratory. He has published several encyclopedia entries, book reviews, and articles on poetry in Connotations, Twentieth Century Literature, and Paideuma. Professor Ausubel served a three year stint as program coordinator for Chaffey College's own Milliken Planetarium. He has also been recognized for his service at Chaffey with the President's Award for Excellence and has served as a Special Delegate for two-year colleges on the Modern Language Association's Delegate Assembly. He is past co-chair of the College Book committee. He served for seven years on the Faculty Senate and is currently the Chaffey College Faculty Association's lead negotiator and grievance committee member. In addition to teaching, from 2005-2007, Professor Ausubel was on special assignment for Distance Education.
