Middle school students are at a critical juncture in their future planning, and many are faced with limited knowledge of their post-secondary options. Career Days bring in professionals from the local area who represent different careers. Past career days have included speakers from the medical field, fashion design, industrial electronics, law enforcement, finance, entertainment, catering, and engineering.

CTE Institute: A New Generation of Professionals

The purpose of the institute, CTE: A New Generation of Professionals, is to help build the pipeline between secondary and postsecondary education. A variety of different topics will be discussed over the course of three days, covering a wide range of timely CTE topics. This FREE institute will provide an excellent opportunity for team members to collaborate with colleagues and formulate a plan to implement or strengthen a CTE pathway in their school or district. Registration is limited to teams. The CTE Institute will be held at the Westin Hotel in beautiful Rancho Mirage, California on March 10-12, 2010.

She 4 Me

The third annual She4Me Young Ladies Mentoring Event will be held at the Chaffey College Chino Community Center on Saturday, April 24, 2010. She4Me is an opportunity for girls and young women ages 8-18 to spend the day with their female mentor (mom, grandmother, Girl Scout leader, female minister or other leader) learning about careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Workshops give the girls and women time together to do hands-on activities, explore careers in demand, and deepen their relationship. She4Me registration is $25 for the young lady and her mentor, and $15 for each additional young lady. Scholarships are available.

NASCAR Day at the Auto Club Speedway

Middle school students and teachers will enjoy a day of math-related activities at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Students will see how math is used in NASCAR racing. After lunch, students will get to meet businesses that work with NASCAR and the Auto Club Speedway.

GEMS Camps (Girls Excelling in Math with Success)

Fun, hands-on activities highlighting math and science will be the focus of this camp. Girls will see how math and science are used in everyday life, and learn about women who have made a difference in the world by using math and science.
