GEMS is a summer academy of learning for girls entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. Project GEMS provides a
stimulating environment so that mathematics and science are seen as interesting, relevant, and related to career choice. Girls will be motivated to take more mathematics and science courses and consider careers which are mathematically or scientifically based. Positive attitudes will be nurtured as girls learn about community service and are introduced to mentoring from women who are successful in education and business endeavors. Best of all, girls will learn together and have fun.

CHAMPS is a summer academy of learning for student going into 6th, 7th, & 8th grade. CHAMPS provides a stimulating environment so that mathematics and science is seen as interesting, relevant and related to career choice. As a result of the foundation provided by this academy, students will be motivated to take more mathematics and science courses and consider careers that are mathematically and/or scientifically based. Positive attitudes will be nurtured as students learn about community service and are exposed to mentoring from individuals who are successful in education and business endeavors.
Students receive materials and books which promote hands-on, inquiry based learning. Information about our sponsors and the University of California, Riverside is discussed. Appropriate memorabilia is provided. Attendance for the entire project is required. Students and their parents participate in an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the program. Middle school students and teachers will enjoy a day of math-related activities at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Students will see how math is used in NASCAR racing. After lunch, students will get to meet businesses that work with NASCAR and the Auto Club Speedway.
