C. Do I need an AA degree to transfer?
An AA degree is not required to transfer. Then
why bother with a degree from Chaffey? Most students consider it as
insurance, in case anything
happens and they are unable to complete their bachelor’s degree
at the university. Once you earn a degree at Chaffey College, it is
a college degree, making you more competitive in the job market for
entry-level professional types of opportunities. The degree guarantees
the employer that you have college level reading, writing, thinking,
and speaking skills that make you easier to train and more capable
of making decisions with sound thought and logic.
To earn a AA degree in General Education you need to complete 60 units
of degree applicable courses, including the courses needed to meet
your transfer requirements, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or better and
earn a C or better in courses for the math, writing, and computer literacy
competencies for the degree. In addition, you will need to take multicultural/
gender studies and PE/Recreation/Wellness courses required by the degree.
Carefully planned, these courses can be included in the requirements
for transferring without having to take any additional courses. Match
up required courses from the general education pattern for the AA degree
in these categories with what is required for CSU and/or IGETC general
education patterns to meet both sets of requirements at the same time.
