What do the course number mean?
  • Courses #500-599 non-degree applicable, skill-building courses.
  • Courses #400-499 degree applicable.
  • Courses #1-99 transferable to the California state University system.
  • For information on courses transferable to the UC system go to www.assist.org.
What is a prerequisite?

When a course has a prerequisite, it means that a student must possess a certain body of knowledge to be successful in the course. The pre-existing knowledge may be a skill, an ability, a placement score, or successful completion of a course with a grade of "C" or better.

Students attempting to enroll in a course without the verified prerequisite will be blocked from registration of that particular course.

What is a corequisite?
A corequisite is a course you must take in the same term as another course.
How many units should I take?
  • The number of course units is roughly equivalent to the number of lecture hours per week.
  • Activity or lab courses will meet more hours per week.
  • For each unit you take, expect at least two hours of outside homework per week.

What types of programs does Chaffey offer?
  • Certificates - related directly to vocational/technical careers and require less training time.
  • AA/AS Degrees - minimum 2 years and 60 units (more for health programs such as nursing and radiologic technology) and includes courses in general education and specific major.
  • Preparing for transfer - average 2-3 years for full time students, depending on the university; completion of the freshman and sophomore years towards a Bachelor's degree at a California State University, University of California and private universities, such as USC.
