Counseling Department GUIDANCE 2 Essentials for Student Success (2 units) Transfer Credit: CSU Designed to increase student proficiency and retention in college. Topics include: learning styles, study and time management techniques, motivation, library research methods, critical thinking, memory and reading strategies, and exploration of college services. helps students develop personal and interpersonal communication skills critical to becoming responsible learners. Introduces students to the various segments of higher education in California. GUIDANCE 3 Career Exploration and Planning (3 units) Transfer Credit: CSU Designed for students seeking direction about a career and/or major. Topics include life problem-solving, evaluation of values, interests, abilities, skills, and personality. Intensive career investigation; analysis and evaluation of employment trends; job research and self-marketing skill development. Understanding physical, psychological, and social issues that impact career and life choices will also be addressed. GUIDANCE 405 Tutor Training (2 units) Recommended preparation: Completion of the courses to be tutored with a minimum grade of B. Designed to teach students how to be effective tutors in a community college setting. Emphasis on tutoring and on study skill techniques, plus practical skills to use in a variety of tutoring situations. GUIDANCE 503 Orientation to College (2 units) (Formerly GUID-402) Skills for college success. In-depth introduction to colleges services. This course is offered on a credit/no-credit basis only. GUIDANCE 504 Educational Planning (0.5 units) (Formerly GUID-400) Recommended preparation: Completion of assessment and orientation. Prepares students to develop a successful educational plan. Topics include: requirements for degrees, certificates, and preparation for transfer to other educational institutions; academic policies and regulations; dates and deadlines for academic procedures; programs of study; student support services; study skills; and other relevant facts about the college.
